52 Images from 2026

I did not add much to this site in 2025, mainly sloth I think, so I decided to have a target for 2026 – select an image for each week in 2026 and add the image at the end of each week.

Week 1 – 1st to 4th of January.

January 3rd. A fine cold day for a walk down the top of Lathkill Dale, starting at SK 156 664, and along the public footpath towards One Ash Grange Farm which starts opposite Ricklow Quarry. Camera – Leica Q2.

Week 2 – 5th to 11th of January.

January 5th. A small amount of overnight snow, followed by a clear cold day for a walk towards Mother Cap on Hathersage Moor, through a fine birch wood, starting at SK 251 801. Camera – Leica Q2.

Week 3 – 12th to 18th of January.

January 14th. A dull late afternoon walk up Bar Road (the old toll road) in Baslow, from SK 256 725 to the Wellington Monument, Eagle Stone and Baslow Edge. The Eliminates’ Wall on Curbar Edge is just visible in the centre of the picture. Camera – Leica M240 with the 28/35/50 Tri-Elmar.

Week 4 – 19th to 25th of January.

January 23rd. A miserable week, foggy and wet, relieved by an excellent lunch in Manchester. Chef Tom Barnes at Skof. Camera – Fairphone 5.

Week 5 – 26th of January to 1st of February

January 31st. A surprise – some sunshine and blue sky in the morning. Black Rocks (named Black Rock on the OS map) is a gritstone outcrop on the edge of the limestone near Wirksworth. This is a panorama of the south face. A figure hidden in the shadow, bottom left, gives the scale. Camera – Leica M10M + Voigtlander Color-Skopar 28.

Week 6 – 2nd of February to 8th of February

February 8th. Another miserable week – rain, some snow and very low cloud, but the snowdrops all over the garden look splendid. Camera – Leica CL + Sigma 24/3.5.

Week 7 – 9th of February 9th to 15th of February.

February 14th. Another miserable week with one fine day, when we visited Fountains Abbey and the Water Garden at Studley Royal. This is a World Heritage Site – for the Water Garden, not the Abbey. Camera – Leica M10 Monochrom + 50/2.0.

Week 8 – 16th of February to 22nd of February

February 19th. Moss on a limestone wall in the rain. Camera – Fujifilm X100VI.

Week 9 – 23rd of February to 1st of March

February 25th. The tunnel on the Cromford & High Peak Railway beneath the Buxton to Newhaven turnpike. The railway opened to traffic in 1826, one year after the Stockton & Darlington, but the medallion over the south portal is dated 1825. Camera – Leica M10 Monochrom +75/2.0.

Week 10 – 2nd of March to 8th of March

March 3rd. The connection between metro lines on the way to Santiago Calatrava’s Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias in Valencia, with an image in the ceiling to remind you where you are going. Camera – Fairphone 5.

March 11th. Iconic Paris – Hector Guimard’s Metro entrance and the column in the Place de la Bastille. Camera – Fairphone 5.

Week 12 – 16th of March to 22nd of March
